Who writes it
I’m Mike Chartrand. I live in Barranquilla. Every neighborhood profile, restaurant recommendation, and cost breakdown on this site comes from me actually walking the streets, eating the meals, paying the rent, and dealing with the bureaucracy. When I haven’t personally verified something, I say so.
How the guides are made
- Neighborhoods are written after spending real time in each one – not from a desk in another city.
- Prices (rent, groceries, utilities, healthcare) are re-checked on a quarterly basis and cross-referenced with Numbeo, Expatistan, and Colombian government sources. Every guide shows a “Last updated” date.
- Restaurants and bars are places I’ve actually eaten and drunk at. If a spot appears on a “best of” list, I’ve been there more than once.
- Medical tourism pages (dental, plastic surgery) are written conservatively: board-certified clinics only, flagged red-flags, no kickbacks.
What Barranquilla Guide isn’t
- Not a tourism board. Nothing here is paid placement unless it’s labeled as such.
- Not a news site. For breaking local news, read El Heraldo and Zona Cero.
- Not a forum. For community questions, join the Facebook group or the WhatsApp community.
Editorial standards
Corrections are welcome and get fixed publicly. If you see something wrong – a price that’s out of date, a restaurant that closed, a visa rule that changed – email me via the Contact page and I’ll update it.
How this site makes money
Display ads via Google AdSense, a small number of affiliate links (always disclosed at the point of linking), and paid placements on the Advertise page that are clearly labeled “Sponsored.” Editorial content is never influenced by advertisers.
