La Arenosa just wrapped its 213th birthday party and we’re rolling straight into Burger Master week, so if you’ve been looking for an excuse to eat your way across El Prado and the Norte, this is it. Here’s what else is worth knowing.
Burger Master 2026 is live (Apr 20–26). Nineteen Barranquilla spots are serving one-off burgers at a flat 21,000 COP all week – Vanfran, Muncher, La Guapa, Lug Burger & Rock, Colmillo, El Parche, Street Burger, La Hierra, Barbecue Garage, Machete Burger, Moratto, Cargo in Puerto Colombia, and a handful more. Rules: download the Tulio Recomienda app, order the festival burger (not what’s on the regular menu), rate it. Lines get ugly after 7 p.m. Go at lunch or early. Details
The 213th birthday concert pulled 20,000+ to the Gran Malecón. Saturday night’s free show featured Luister La Voz, Iván Vilazón, Altafulla (in full Junior de Barranquilla jersey), Aria Vega, and Elder Dayán Díaz closing it out. If you missed it, the Malecón programming tends to continue in smaller bursts through the end of the month – worth a stroll at sunset. Recap
Shakira and Beéle put Quilla on screen. The “Algo Tú” video dropped last week and leans hard into Carnaval – marimondas, loba masks from Rumbón Normalista, and El Congo Grande in the background. Not just a postcard cameo; the city is the set. Useful viewing if you’re trying to show someone back home why Carnaval matters. Alcaldía statement
Satena is quietly turning Ernesto Cortissoz into a regional hub. The state airline is now running 40+ weekly flights out of Barranquilla to Medellín, Valledupar, Cúcuta, Riohacha, and Montería, with connections onward to Leticia, Quibdó, and the Amazon. If you’ve been driving to Santa Marta or bussing it to Valledupar, check fares – sometimes it’s the same money and two hours less. Read the full story
Weather turn is coming. We’re still in the tail end of the dry season – highs around 33°C, low humidity for Quilla standards – but the rainy period officially kicks in in May. Expect the first proper afternoon aguaceros within two or three weeks. Stock up on an umbrella; your Uber won’t always show.
Heads-up for digital nomads. Cancillería tightened the Colombia Digital Nomad Visa again in 2026. You now need authenticated proof of remote income plus comprehensive international health insurance, and the office has been narrowing “digital work” to tech and content creators in practice. Income floor is still low (~5.25M COP/month, around $1,400 USD), and Barranquilla’s Migración office is at Cra 42 #54-77 in El Recreo if you’re processing in-country. Current requirements
Worth watching. Plaza Urban Fest lands Monday, April 27 – urban music, street food, late start. Details have been trickling out on AllEvents; keep an eye on it if that’s your scene.
That’s the week. Eat a burger for me.
Barranquilla. Understood.
