Barranquilla’s hotel scene has matured considerably in recent years, with international brands joining the city’s historic stalwarts. Whether you’re coming for Carnival, a business trip, or scouting a potential relocation, here are the top hotels worth knowing in 2026, ranked roughly by quality and positioning.

Booking tips before you choose
Which area suits you: El Prado (central, walkable, historic, best restaurants on foot) is the right default for first-time visitors and short stays. Riomar and Buenavista (modern towers, near the two big malls, easier parking) suit longer stays, families, or anyone with a car. Country Club/Alto Prado sits in between: good nightlife corridor, quieter vibe. Near the airport (Soledad side) only makes sense for a pre-dawn flight departure.

How to book: Booking.com and direct hotel websites both work well in Barranquilla and usually match rates. For Carnival (February/March), book 2 to 4 months ahead and budget for 2x to 3x normal rates plus minimum-stay requirements of 3 to 5 nights.

What to check on every booking: AC quality is non-negotiable in this heat. Confirm hot water (some budget hotels have solar-only heaters that run cool). Ask about backup power or water if you are staying during the rainy season (May to June, September to October). Do a quick search for reviews from the last 3 to 6 months since hotel quality in Barranquilla shifts with management changes.
Say this at the front desk

"Buenas, tengo una reserva a nombre de [nombre]. ¿Es posible un check-out tarde?"

"Hi, I have a reservation under [name]. Is a late check-out possible?"

1. Marriott Hotel Barranquilla

Opened in 2022, the Marriott Hotel Barranquilla quickly established itself as Barranquilla’s best full-service luxury option. Located in the Zona Norte near the city’s best restaurants and shopping, it offers exactly what you’d expect from the brand: impeccably appointed rooms, a proper business center, a rooftop pool with city views, and reliable international-standard service. The best hotel in the city for first-time visitors who want zero friction.

2. Hotel El Prado

Barranquilla’s most iconic hotel and one of the oldest in Colombia, Hotel El Prado has been hosting guests since 1930. The colonial architecture, terracotta roofs, arcaded courtyards, a legendary pool, is genuinely beautiful, and the hotel’s location in the historic El Prado neighborhood puts you walking distance from the best of old Barranquilla. It’s a living piece of the city’s history. Service is warm, the breakfast is excellent, and no other hotel in the city has this much character.

3. Dann Carlton Barranquilla

A five-star Colombian classic that has long been one of the city’s well-regarded business hotels. The Dann Carlton Barranquilla sits directly across from the Buenavista mall complex, making it extremely convenient for shopping and dining. Its standout feature is the rooftop revolving restaurant, one of the few in Colombia, with panoramic city views. Rooms are spacious and well-maintained, service is professional, and the hotel runs smoothly during events like Carnival.

4. Hotel Estelar Alto Prado

Part of the respected Colombian Estelar chain, the Hotel Estelar Alto Prado is a consistently reliable upscale option located in the Country Club district. It features spacious rooms, a spa, fitness center, and multiple dining options. It attracts a largely Colombian business clientele and consistently delivers a polished experience. A quieter, more residential feel than the Marriott or Dann Carlton.

5. Hotel Movich Buró 51

A stylish modern boutique-ish hotel in a central location near Viva Mall. Hotel Movich Buró 51 positions itself as a design-forward option with a younger, more contemporary feel than the traditional business hotels. The rooftop pool is a highlight, rooms are well-designed and comfortable, and the price-to-quality ratio is solid. A good mid-luxury option if the Marriott and Dann Carlton feel too corporate.

A Note on Carnival Season

During Carnival week (February 14 to 17, 2026), all hotel rates in Barranquilla roughly double or triple, and availability disappears months in advance. If you’re planning to come for Carnival, book by November at the latest, ideally earlier. Many hotels require a minimum 3-night stay during Carnival week and may require non-refundable deposits.

Beyond Hotels: Furnished Apartments

For stays of one week or more, furnished apartment rentals often provide significantly more space and a more local experience than hotels, at lower prices. The Zona Norte has dozens of well-managed apartment buildings with pools and gyms where owners list units on Airbnb or through local agencies. For a two-week stay, a comfortable 2BR furnished apartment in Bello Horizonte can cost less than four nights at the Marriott.
