Art Deco and colonial architecture, The mansions of El Prado were built by Barranquilla’s merchant elite in the 1920s-1950s. They’re extraordinary: Moroccan tiles, Italian marble, Lebanese ornament, and a distinctly tropical interpretation of European style.
The immigrant story, Barranquilla was Colombia’s main port and received wave after wave of immigrants, Lebanese, Italian, German, Jewish. El Prado’s architecture reflects this directly. Every building has a story.
